Our Story

Yes Kosher Friendship was born out of profound loss and a deep desire to transform pain into purpose. In memory of a child taken too soon, our founder sought to create a living legacy an organization that would bring light and connection to those feeling isolated and vulnerable. In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, rising costs of kosher food, and growing food insecurity across Alberta, many seniors, youth, and individuals facing mobility challenges found themselves cut off not only from physical sustenance but also from community, education, and emotional support. Yes Kosher Friendship arose to meet this urgent need not simply to provide aid, but to empower people to thrive. Rooted in timeless Jewish values of kindness (chesed) חסד, justice (tzedek) צדק, and mutual responsibility (arevut ערבות, our mission is to open doors and build bridges, creating a future where no one is left behind or forgotten.

Our Mandate

Yes Kosher Friendship is a mobile, dynamic force dedicated to delivering comprehensive, wrap-around services to those who need them most. With a central Edmonton office anchoring our work and a strong volunteer base spread throughout Alberta, we reach individuals across the province especially those with limited mobility or access—ensuring that no person seeking help is left unsupported.

We walk alongside individuals, connecting them to essential resources, networks, and opportunities. Our governing board reflects the communities we serve: diverse in age, background, and experience, with a majority of women who bring lived insight to guide empathetic and effective programming.

Inspired by ancient Jewish wisdom and guided by the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s call to  "Uforatzta" = You shall spread out / break forth

"Yamah" = westward

"Kedmah" = eastward

"Tzafonah" = northward

"Negbah" = southward

we embrace boldness and compassion. This sacred charge pushes us to open new doors, light new paths, and empower individuals with creativity, confidence, and hope.

Working closely with a wide range of partners who share our vision, we extend our reach, creating inclusive, empowering programs that ignite potential rather than merely offering charity.

Our work goes beyond supports we create opportunities: paid internships, meaningful work experiences, creative arts, recreation, education, and emotional wellness programs designed to nurture future leaders and healers who will strengthen communities for generations.

Our Vision

We envision a world where differences are not just accepted but celebrated as a source of strength, where inclusion is the unshakable foundation of communities, and where voices,no matter how small ignite collective power and transformative change. Inspired by the enduring teaching, "ואהבת לרעך כמוך" — "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Leviticus ), we extend this sacred responsibility to all.
